In my book, (free download at http://www.mikejamesjazz.com/dfl_reviews.html ) I describe a method for learning the one-hand roll (like Buddy played on the Montreal cymbal solo) as "playing a shuffle, and gradually removing the shuffle feel". That's a reasonable explanation, but it's text only. Video is better, so...

Derrick Pope has some (free to download) videos discussing a Moeller-ish method of doing it, in the video section at Drummerworld.
